Gapuri Skull by Exobio Gapuri Skull by Exobio
Anatomy! Gapuri skulls are hard, also you guys finally get a little bit of a peak at their sort of creepy mouth parts. I'll get a better illustration up of the radula like mouthpart soon.

Thanks for looking

[edit]
I'm more or less keeping the original head design, but the body is the only thing changing a bit at this point.

[edit part two]
I am going to start actually watermarking my stuff. I feel sort of pretentious doing it, but I also am on tumblr a lot and would like people to be able to make it back to my DA gallery :)

Really enjoying your creature designs exobio! Very interesting skull, it looks almost like a cross between a dolphin and spider/ant, very cool =D

Thank you! I was inspired by cetacean anatomy, especially belugas :)

No problem, yeah they have a quite frightening/alien skull, if you forget about how they look in reality =)

Hi. My name is Raphael and I have created an intelligent race, and then I saw the gapuri. They are very similar. I wonder if this is disturbing. So look : [link]
Unfortunate coincidence?

They don't look that similar at all, don't worry. I think Laodan have cute faces! I really don't worry about designs being too similar to mine, unless someone has made a blatant copy of the Gapuri or are using the same name as them or something, then I'll say something. And that hasn't ever happened. :)

It's just fat, like a melon on a whale. They have a semi-prehensile upper lip and nose! Actually, their upper lip is very prehensile. They can use it like a finger along with their lower jaws.

ooooh ok. interesting. so if its like a melon on a whale, does it like help them vocalize or something? or is it like an appendix and just there to be there

In their more ancient or aquatic relatives it acts as a melon, but these are far more distant cousins (with the exception of an aquatic group living in the mangroves, but they lack the melon and have a much flatter face ). But I digress, the upper lip is used in picking things off branches, speaking, etc. It's not just there because I thought it looked pretty/cute/whatever haha.

Have you ever drawn the full skeleton? Or muscular structure? Or digestive system? (No one ever draws fictional digestive systems.) I love that kind of stuff!
