Insect/spider like predator by Exobio Insect/spider like predator by Exobio
I haven't drawn enough insect like anythings. At least not from Skatha.

Anyway, this guy burrows down in a tunnel and waits, then zips out and snatches up its prey with its tendrils (not shown). Then it injects a neurotoxin and once the prey has stopped moving it begins to slowly rasp away at it with its lower radula like jaws.

I love it for the sketch style, but the design is cool too

Can it fly? Because seeing a group of these guys flying towards me would be scary and a little cool at the same time

Perhaps in a stage of development, once they were fully mature they'd be too large to fly.

Rather then draw the expected 4 or 3 pair legs try something more alien. Like 6 pair of legs so it looks like it belongs on that planet.

I like to create aliens based on what I find plausible and efficient, not what is most alien. This one organism doesn't dictate how many limbs other animals will have on Skatha, it certainly isn't the case on Earth so it wouldn't be the case on another planet in my opinion.

Okay that is logical and respectable. What kind of ecosystems are on this planet?

Hundreds, just as on earth. There are climates similar to Earth, but Skatha is in general a warmer planet, certain areas are nearly inhospitable while others are lush jungles of weird plants and fungi, planes and canyons...etc. Skatha is a very diverse planet.

Not a terribly large number, it's a work in progress and it's slow going.

ME TOO. And I like spiders. However these are cute little jumping spiders that are all tiny and adorable, not huge monstrous arachnids of death.

Like serious-LEE? :XD: OMG  I thought the leg thickness is due to design choice (some organs being housed in the legs, for example) rather than an implication of such frightenning bodily dimensions :D
Can it still fly? How thick is Skathan atmosphere? does it have to mold or does the exoskeleton grow with it? why am I bombaring you with all these questions? XD

This guy doesn't fly, it's a purely terrestrial predator, it doesn't even go in the trees that often (and when it does it doesn't go very far up). The exoskeleton grows with it I think.

I actually need to do some work on Skatha's atmosphere, I think I've got some problems to work out. I had it being thicker so as to allow larger animals to fly (along with lower gravity of course), but the smaller the planet generally the harder it is to keep a thick atmosphere. Although Venus is an extreme exception of this, but Venus is also under different conditions than a planet in the habitable zone is. I think I am going to post this in my Spec Evo forum thread and get some feedback.

that's a good decision I think, but I would guess a planet slightly smaller than earth could still have thicker atmosphere, if it were orbiting more to the inside of the habitable zone, because its oceans would be evaporating, but not as extremely as on venus, but this could make the atmosphere thicker... but I could be entirely wrong though XD

Yeah but then I've got the whole problem of explaining the large amount of ocean that covers Skatha is still there, though the majority is rather shallow.

If you have a fixed ammount of water V on a planet with surface area S, the same ammount of water will look proportionally larger on a planet with smaller S. ;) It also depends on the relief of the seafloor, but let's isolate only one factor here. Point is, that even if the difference in planet's radius seem negligible, the effect on the resulting surface area is more promininent, so even if skatha had the same or smaller ammount of water than earth, if it were a smaller planet (not by much though) it could have oceans that cover the same or greater percentage of the planet's surface, especially if the average depth of the ocean is shallower than earth's. ;)
